Hotel de l’Europe: Amsterdam, Netherlands

Style: City Life, Local Immersion, Landmarks

About: Hotel de L’Europe in Amsterdam is a 5 star historic hotel situated on the famous Amstel River canal in the heart of it all. This hotel successfully brings together traditional Dutch design with modern amenities, all while paying tribute to their famous Dutch artists throughout the property.

Rooms: With 111 rooms from deluxe guest rooms to a Penthouse Suite, there are many options between their historic Rondeel building and the Dutch Master’s Wing. Each room has a different and colorful personality while featuring a Dutch Master Artist replica in the room.

Pool/Gym: This hotel features a canal view pool experience, not to be missed. Their fitness room has leading technology embedded in their equipment and a personal trainer can be arranged.

Restaurants: They feature a 2 star Michelin restaurant, Bord’Eua, but don’t let that overshadow their other restaurant options.

We had lunch at Hoffdstad Brasserie, and that meal was one of the best I have had in a long time AND with a view to match. Overlooking the canal, this restaurant will leave you drooling for their Chicken Liver and Foie Gras Parfait paired with a glass of Veuve Clicquot Brut.

If the day proves to be beautiful, then you must sit on their canal side terrace, Hèt Terras. If you’re there over the weekend, be prepared to see some colorful people passing by on boats!

Vibe: Sophisticated and Historic

Spa: The spa is one of their shining stars. From a Finish sauna to a Turkish steam bath you are sure to find the right spa treatment for you. And my favorite secret spot is their canal side patio where you can relax before or after a treatment.

Kids: There are many rooming options for small and large families. Restaurants include children’s menus, the staff provide children’s amenities, and if you need a babysitter, De L’Europe has you covered. And for those of you with fur babies, this hotel is super dog friendly. They will arrange dog amenities, dog walking, grooming, and companionship.

Wheelchair accessibility: The entrance into the hotel and to the restaurants are accessible. Inquire with True North about accessible guest rooms and suites.

Why you should go: This hotel is a short walk from most major sights and is right on the Amstel River, meaning you can cruise the canals right from your hotel.

Tips: This property used to be Heineken’s guest house to entertain their friends, and Freddy’s Bar was their first bar. Taste a fresh Heineken on draft, and if your American palate prefers an extra cold beer, this is the only place in the world to grab Heineken’s extra cold draft!

True North Amenities:

The hotel is situated in the heart of most things in Amsterdam, so you can easily walk to most major sights within 10 minutes and the tram is right outside the door to get to farther destinations.
