About: The Sofitel Legend The Grand says it all in the name. This hotel is absolutely Grand and the staff there go out of their way to make you feel like a legend. This hotel is housed in one of the most historical places you could stay in Amsterdam. From the original stained glass windows circa 15th century, to the original marble and painted frescos, they capture the history of Amsterdam without sacrificing 21st century comfort and amenities. This hotel is situated between two canals just steps away from Central Station and all of the action. This is the perfect home base to explore my favorite city in the world.
Rooms: Featuring 177 rooms where traditional elegance meets bright and contemporary design. Each room features Hermès amenities, modern technology, a peaceful respite and fun images of iconic Dutch figures. Many rooms come with stunning canal views, while Junior Suites and above come with butler service (including the accessible room).
Pool/Gym: They feature an indoor heated pool for year round swimming, and a state of the art SoFit facility.
Restaurants: The Grand has a generous selection of dining and bar options. From Bridges, a 1 star Michelin restaurant serving the best seafood in town to Le Petite Bistro, an authentic French Bistro overlooking the Garden Terrace, you are sure to be pleased. They have 5 bars with different vibes and offerings, including sommelier led, The Vinothèque
Spa: So SPA has an amazing offering of spa treatments, including a Turkish steam bath, lots of treatment rooms, jacuzzi, sauna, and of course, a relaxation room. This is the perfect end to a busy day of touring.
Kids: This is a great place to bring your teenage children, as they offer bike rentals, canal tours and have a swimming pool. They do offer babysitting services, but there is no dedicated children’s program. But, as a 5 star accommodation, you can be sure that the staff will make sure your young tots will feel special and comfortable during their stay.
Wheelchair accessibility: This hotel is very accessible. From the entrance, to the restaurants, and the emergency evacuation chair, wheelchairs are easy to navigate around this property. They have 1 superior room located on the third floor that is fully wheelchair accessible. Contact True North to learn more about the accessibility of this hotel.
Why you should go: Located minutes from Central Station, this hotel is as central as you can get. The location might be in the middle of everything, but it’s quiet courtyard entrance is a nice respite from this vibrant and bustling city. When inside, you would never know you were on a busy canal.
Tips: Every day they give complimentary historical tours of the hotel. It’s worth it, as this is a former 15th century convent, the former city hall where major decisions were made for Dutch exploration, and also where Princess Beatrix was married.
